Why Your SASSA SRD R350 Grant Might Be Declined

If your R350 grant application was declined by SASSA, don’t panic. There are several common reasons for rejection — and most of them can be fixed or appealed.

🚫 Common Reasons for SRD Grant Rejection

  • Alternative Income Source Identified: SASSA detected deposits over R624 in your bank account.
  • NSFAS or UIF Benefits: You’re receiving another government benefit (UIF, NSFAS, etc.)
  • Already Receiving a Grant: You receive another SASSA grant (e.g., Child Grant or Old Age Pension).
  • ID Number Linked to Another Application: Your ID has already been used for an existing SRD grant.
  • Identity Verification Failed: The details on your application don’t match the Department of Home Affairs database.
  • Age Ineligible: You are under 18 or over 60 years old.

Note: Even if you were approved before, SASSA reviews each month separately.

🔁 What to Do if You Were Declined

You can appeal your SRD rejection within 30 days:

  1. Visit https://srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals
  2. Enter your ID number and the cellphone number used in your application
  3. Select the month you want to appeal
  4. Choose a reason and submit

Appeals are processed by the Department of Social Development, not SASSA. You can check the outcome online after 30–90 days.

🛠️ Fixing Your Application for Future Payments

  • Make sure your bank account is in your name
